This is an old post from the year 2012 recovered from the Web Archive.
Hello, folks!
Now that we’ve gotten things set up, I’d like to welcome all of you to the official Unvanquished forums. Here, and on the blog in particular, we’ll be posting reports of our progress along with any major announcements. You are more than welcome to post comments and questions here in response to our posts, as we’d love to interact with the community and hear their concerns.
To those that have joined us for the first time, I’d like to go into a brief overview of the Unvanquished project. Our goal is to produce a high-quality, open source gaming experience for our fans, with a transparent development model dedicated to a free exchange between developers and members of the community. The game itself is a fast-paced, futuristic sci-fi shooter with RTS elements, pitting technologically advanced humans against a highly adaptable alien menace. Both sides can be played, allowing for a diverse gameplay experience.
Having already released our very first alpha on February 29th, we’ve been hard at work on our next alpha release, which is scheduled for April 1st. A bugfix release has already been made available, which should alleviate most or all of the critical bugs present in our initial offering. Those that would like to be on the bleeding edge of things are more than welcome to compile from our Git repository, located here. If you require assistance in compiling or running the game, or have any questions regarding technical support, feel free to ask on the forums. Make sure to report any bugs you find, so that they may be fixed promptly.
You may find us on IRC, on both the #unvanquished and #unvanquished-dev channels on Freenode. The first channel is for general discussion, while the second is solely for discussing development. While members of the public are welcome to idle on our development channel, we’d like to stress that off-topic discussion should be kept solely to the general channel. Typically, members of our development team will be present on both channels, so you can find us on either one.
If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to ask! I look forward to interacting with all of you, and we hope to provide you with an excellent gaming experience.
