We need a concept for the SMG, formerly known as "rifle".

Humans start with the rifle. It is the most basic weapon, does not possess any frills, and works reasonably well in a variety of situations and against a variety of opponents. Considering how reliable it is, many players develop a proficiency with it. As one would expect, the weapon is based off physical rounds that are fired at a rapid rate, discarding spent shells as it does so. The weapon works off clips, much like the mass driver, and as a result will require the first-person hands to be used while animating. It needs firing, reloading, and idle animations. The current in-game model possesses a scope, but it does not actually utilize it for gameplay reasons. In addition, the in-game model is antiquated. We will need to replace it, and we have a concept model to be used as a design. However, you are welcome to model it in a different way if you feel a different design would be more interesting. We can provide you with the model to serve as a reference.

To sum this up for the concept part, the weapon needs to fulfill the following requirements:

  • A classic SMG, shoots physical projectiles

  • Uses clips with a capacity of 30

  • Comes from a time were laser weapons are available but projectile based guns are still manufactured because of their established design

  • Does not have a scope

Here is a picture of the model kharnov is talking about:

Also have a look at our shotgun, which plays a simliar role (reliable projectile weapon in a futuristic environment):

Another gun with a similiar background is the upcoming HMG:

Feel free to use modern guns for inspiration. This one was obviously the basis for the unfinished model above and sums up our requirements pretty well (apart from having a scope, the SMG shouldn't have one!):

Hi guys, just a quick note. I don't know if you're familiar with this, but if you need a resource for guns, then:

Lots of great ideas and silhouettes (and lots of over-the-board ones too :D)

Can be used for conceptdrafting/reffing easily.

Aaaaaaand … you're done.

Really, there's nothing to improve, this is ready to be modeled. Since you added the handle at the front there's no need to concept the buttstock in expanded form, we will just leave it like that and have the human hold it in the air (this is better for animation, too, as the buttstock can't reach into the shoulder).

I'll still finish it for my portfolio so unless this is urgent I can push it further.

Sure, feel free to put in as many detail as you like! We have a good buffer of concepts by now, nothing is urgent.
